Foil Stamping & Embossing
Overview: Adding metallic or 3D layers to a print piece.
What is Foil Stamping & Embossing?
Add a punch to your design with foil stamping or embossing. The creation processes of foil stamping and embossing are very similar but produce vastly different results. In foil stamping, heat is used on a metallic film to create a shiny design on top of a label. In embossing, an image is pressed into the back of a label giving it the appearance of being on the front of the label. Essentially, foil stamping transfers colorful foils to the front of a print design, while embossing creates an image through the back of a print design.
Torn between Foil Stamping & Embossing Options?
Embossing a label produces a more 3D effect with a raised surface giving it a textured feel. Foil stamping does not produce the same 3D effect, but the bright foils give an illusion of depth. That said, foil stamping and embossing techniques can be combined for a very dramatic result and a great first impression.
